SCEH Celebrates and Recognizes Achievements in the Hypnosis Community

On Friday, October 6, 2023, the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis held its Annual Awards Celebration online to shine a light upon and publicly recognize achievements within the hypnosis community. Hosted by SCEH President, Ciara Christensen, PhD, the ceremony acknowledged the contributions of winners in the areas of clinical hypnosis education and training, hypnosis research and publication, and SCEH programs and activities that advanced the organization’s mission to promote excellence and progress in the field.

The 2023 Awards Committee included Chair Don Moss, PhD, and committee members Gary Elkins, PhD, ABPP, ABPH, David Reid, PsyD and Janna Henning, PsyD.  Nominations were sourced via a member Call for Awards, then selected by the committee.  The Presidential Award and Living Treasure awards were selected by the SCEH President.

SCEH Announces 2020 Conference Dates and Location:

Conference will take place in Anaheim, California from October 14-18, 2020

The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) has announced the date and location for its 2020 Annual Conference.  The Society's 71st Annual Workshops and Scientific Program will be held in Anaheim, California from October 14-18, 2020 at the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort.

The Workshops component of the conference includes clinical hypnosis training at introductory, skills and advanced levels.  Workshops meet accepted Standards of Training in Clinical Hypnosis and count toward SCEH Hypnosis Certification.

The Scientific Program features keynotes, research presentations and symposia that address empirical issues in hypnosis research and practice and related areas. Sessions often integrate research and practice in psychology, psychiatry, medicine and neuroscience to highlight issues that improve understanding of hypnosis. A Poster Session provides another glimpse into the latest scientific research in the field.

A Call for Papers will be issued in January.  Conference registration will open in June.  Hotel reservations will open soon.  For more information, see the SCEH website at www.sceh.us which will be updated as additional details are announced.

We are looking for new ideas and topics in hypnosis and related fields that improve our understanding of hypnosis. While topics that address this year’s conference theme, Clinical and Applied Hypnosis: Evidence-based Practice and the Therapeutic Relationship, are requested, other topics are also welcome. 

Poster presentations allow authors to concisely present a case report or data that can be easily grasped in this format. Poster presentations often permit more discussion between presenters and attendees and may be especially advantageous for students, clinicians, and new investigators.

This year's theme, Clinical and Applied Hypnosis: Evidence-based Practice and the Therapeutic Relationship, puts a focus, first on selecting treatment interventions well tested by rigorous research, and second, on personal mastery of the relationship variables that optimize all therapeutic interventions.  Our 2019 conference will feature keynotes, symposia, and workshops that illustrate these twin themes, as well as scientific presentations extending the scope of hypnosis in both medical and psychological practice. Proposals addressing the meeting theme will be prioritized.

SCEH offers workshops and training in clinical hypnosis that are designed for both clinicians and researchers new to hypnosis, as well as those who wish to deepen their understanding.  SCEH workshops meet accepted Standards of Training in Clinical Hypnosis and count toward SCEH Hypnosis Certification Programs.

In 2019, SCEH will offer its Second Annual Midyear Clinical Hypnosis Workshops from April 26-27, 2019 at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Denver Tech Center-Centennial in Centennial (Denver), Colorado. Included will be Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced Workshops. Details and registration
