SCEH Announces 2026 Annual Conference Dates and Location:
Conference will take place online from October 14-18, 2026

The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) has announced the date and location for its 2026 Annual Conference. The Society's 77th Annual Workshops and Scientific Program will be held live online from October 14-18, 2026. The theme of the conference will be Circuits of Consciousness: Hypnosis, AI, and Psychedelic-Assisted Change.

The five-day event includes both a workshops component and a scientific session. Both CE and CME are offered. The Workshops component features clinical hypnosis training at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels. Workshops meet accepted Standards of Training in Clinical Hypnosis and count toward SCEH Hypnosis Certification. The Scientific Program features keynotes, research presentations and symposia that address empirical issues in hypnosis research and practice and related areas. Sessions often integrate research and practice in psychology, psychiatry, medicine and neuroscience to highlight issues that improve understanding of hypnosis. A Poster Session at the Scientific Program provides another glimpse into the latest scientific research in the field.

A Call for Papers will be issued for Advanced Workshop and Scientific Program proposals in January. Conference registration will open in the summer. For more information, see the SCEH website at www.sceh.us which will be updated as additional details become available.

SCEH Awards Recognize Achievements in the Hypnosis Community

On September 10, 2025, the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis held its Annual Awards Celebration, live online. The event recognizes achievements within the hypnosis community. Hosted by SCEH President Barbara McCann, PhD, the awards program acknowledges contributions to clinical hypnosis, education and training, hypnosis research and publication, and volunteer contributions that advance the organization’s mission to promote excellence and progress in the field.

On Saturday, October 26, 2024, the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis held its Annual Awards Banquet in connection with its 75^th Annual Workshops and Scientific Program in Anaheim, California.  The event recognizes achievements within the hypnosis community. Hosted by SCEH President Barbara McCann, PhD, the ceremony acknowledged the contributions of winners in the areas of clinical hypnosis education and training, hypnosis research and publication, and SCEH programs and activities that advanced the organization’s mission to promote excellence and progress in the field.

Nominations were sourced via a member Call for Awards, then selected by the Society’s Awards and Fellowship Committee.  The 2024 Awards Committee included Chair, Immediate Past President Ciara Christensen, PhD and members Gary Elkins, PhD, ABPP, ABPH, Don Moss, PhD and David Reid, PsyD.  (Committee members recused themselves from voting in certain categories if nominated for an award.)  The SCEH Awards Program also includes Presidential and Living Treasure Awards selected by the current SCEH President.

Hosted by SCEH President, Ciara Christensen, PhD, the ceremony acknowledged the contributions of winners in the areas of clinical hypnosis education and training, hypnosis research and publication, and SCEH programs and activities that advanced the organization’s mission to promote excellence and progress in the field.

The 2023 Awards Committee included Chair Don Moss, PhD, and committee members Gary Elkins, PhD, ABPP, ABPH, David Reid, PsyD and Janna Henning, PsyD.  Nominations were sourced via a member Call for Awards, then selected by the committee.  The Presidential Award and Living Treasure awards were selected by the SCEH President.

The program also includes awards presented by SCEH President Christensen.

On Friday, March 26, 2021, the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis held an online awards event to shine light upon and publicly recognize achievements within the hypnosis community.  Hosted by SCEH President, Janna Henning, JD, PsyD, FT and Gary Elkins, PhD, ABPP, ABPH, Nominations Chair and Past President, the ceremony acknowledged the contributions of winners in the areas of clinical hypnosis education, hypnosis research, publication and SCEH programs and activities that advanced the organization’s mission to promote excellence and progress in the field.

The 2020 SCEH Nominating Committee was chaired by Gary Elkins, PhD, and included Committee Members David Reid, PsyD and Devin Terhune, PhD.  Nominations were sourced via a member Call for Awards, with final selections judged by the committee.

SCEH has opened a call for nominations to lead the Society in the roles of President-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary for the coming two-year term of office (2021-2023).  Officers will begin their terms following our October 2021 Annual Conference. All Full Members in good standing are eligible to run for office; self-nominations are welcome.

Deadline: Nominations must be submitted by January 19, 2021

SCEH 2023 Annual Conference Call for Papers Now Underway

The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis invites submissions of Workshops, Scientific Presentations and Posters for its upcoming 2023 Annual Conference. The five-day event, the Society's 74th Annual Workshops and Scientific Program, will take place live online, from October 4-8, 2023.

This year's conference theme, Unlocking the Power of Mind: Advances in the Science of Hypnosis, reflects the Society’s continued emphasis on advancing both research and practice. The theme considers the wide range of research questions that arise from studying hypnosis as a route to broadening our fundamental understanding of hypnosis and its practical applications.

Presentations on emerging science, clinical hypnosis techniques/therapeutic uses and their benefits, experiencing consciousness, beliefs and suggestion are some of the few examples captured in this year’s conference theme. We are excited to bring individuals together to expand learning and share knowledge about hypnosis and the brain-body connection, as well as further reinforce how and why integrating the use of hypnosis clinically enhances treatment outcomes. We invite workshop proposals supported by research findings, and scientific program submissions ranging from basic research findings to outcome data broadly relevant to hypnosis.

The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) has announced the date and location for its 2020 Annual Conference.  The Society's 71st Annual Workshops and Scientific Program will be held in Anaheim, California from October 14-18, 2020 at the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort.

The Workshops component of the conference includes clinical hypnosis training at introductory, skills and advanced levels.  Workshops meet accepted Standards of Training in Clinical Hypnosis and count toward SCEH Hypnosis Certification.

The Scientific Program features keynotes, research presentations and symposia that address empirical issues in hypnosis research and practice and related areas.
