The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) is an international organization of psychologists, physicians, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers and master's level nurses and certain other professionals who are dedicated to the highest level of scientific inquiry and the conscientious application of hypnosis in two settings; clinical and experimental.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FULL MEMBERSHIP (EXPERIMENTAL AND CLINICAL)

 

At this time, full membership is available to physicians, dentists, doctoral level psychologists, social workers who have been awarded a masters or doctoral degree in social work by a university accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, doctoral level speech pathologists qualified for membership in the American Psychological Association, chiropractors and those with a masters degree in nursing, psychology or marital/family therapy, doctoral level practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine who are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), or other fields recommended by the Credentials and Membership Chair and approved by the Executive Committee.

 

 

All members:

  • shall be licensed or certified at the independent practice level in the state/province in which they practice OR
  • shall have a faculty or senior level research position at a university or other research facility, or shall be conducting research on hypnosis which has the potential to make a bone fide contribution to the literature. 
  • shall be members of a professional society consistent with their degree and shall have received their degree from a University or College accredited by its appropriate regional accrediting body.
  • shall have completed initial workshops, training courses, or seminars n hypnosis of at least twenty hours from SCEH, The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), The International Society of Hypnosis (ISH) or their affiliates, OR shall submit 2 copies of peer reviewed, published research articles in the field of hypnosis, or shall present such other combinations of training and experience as is deemed equivalent by the Credentials and Membership Committee.

 

 

Applications for full membership shall contain the following documentations:

 

1)                  Proof of required level of education;

 

2)                  License or proof of academic affiliation;

 

3)                  Proof of hypnosis training or attached peer reviewed publications;

 

4)                  Curriculum Vitae

Full members shall have the right to vote, hold office, and chair a standing committee.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

 

 

At this time, student membership is available to candidates to one of those degrees required for full membership. For example, student membership will be made available to students in pursuit of their doctorates or who are serving either internship or residency, and students in programs approved by the Council of Social Work Education leading to a masters degree in social work, or students in programs leading to a masters degree in nursing. Appropriate letters from the chairs of their respective department or an executive officer of their university shall accompany their application verifying current status.

 

Applications for student membership shall contain the following documentations:

 

1)                  Proof of required level of education;

 

2)                  Letter from the chair of the department or an executive officer of the university verifying current status (form provided);

 

3)                  Curriculum Vitae;

 

 

 

MEMBERSHIP APPROVAL

Your application will be reviewed upon receipt by the SCEH Membership Committee. At a time when managed care companies and the general public seek ways to establish those who are truly competent to deliver specialized clinical services, this process alone is a way to demonstrate that your training and credentials have been found to be acceptable by a committee of experts in the field.  If you are found ineligible for membership, we will refund your application fee.
