The Society is an international organization of psychologists, physicians, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers and master's level nurses and certain other professionals who are dedicated to the highest level of scientific inquiry and the conscientious application of hypnosis in two settings; clinical and experimental.

Your dues will include a subscription to the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis and the SCEH Newsletter. If you are found ineligible for membership, we will refund your application fee.

REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPERIMENTAL AND CLINICAL MEMBERSHIP 

  1. An earned degree as MD, DO, DDS, DMD, MB ChB, PhD, EdD, PsyD, MSW, DSW, an NP or PA or a similar degree acceptable to the Executive Committee or the Board of SCEH from a regionally- or nationally-accredited university or Training Institution, or status as a registered and licensed practitioner in healthcare such as RN, RTR, registered medical technologist or technician. All applicants shall be licensed in the state or province where they practice
  2. Eligible for professional Membership in American Dental Association, American Medical Association, American Nursing Association, American Osteopathic Association, American Psychological Association, American Psychological Society, National Association of Social Workers, National Federation of Societies for Clinical Social Work, or their affiliates.
  3. Evidence of training or competence in hypnosis research and/or teaching. Experimental Applicants must submit 2 copies of representative publications in the area of hypnosis. Clinical Applicants must have completed, or plan to complete, an acceptable 20 hour introductory course in hypnosis at or before the next Annual SCEH meeting. The introductory course can be one sponsored by SCEH, The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis or one of its component societies, The International Society of Hypnosis or a related organization or university. Applicants need not submit copies of research articles.
  4. Recommendations from two professionals who are familiar with the applicants’ experimental and/or academic work. Please use the recommendation form in the application.

    REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

    1. Evidence of training or competence in hypnosis practice, research and/or teaching. Student applicants for Affiliate Membership must complete a 20 hour introductory course or document equivalent training.
    2. Recommendations from two professionals who are familiar with the students’ clinical, experimental and/or academic work. Please use the recommendation form in the application.

    MEMBERSHIP APPROVAL

    Your application will be reviewed upon receipt by the SCEH Membership Committee. At a time when managed care companies and the general public seek ways to establish those who are truly competent to deliver specialized clinical services, this process alone is a way to demonstrate that your training and credentials have been found to be acceptable by a committee of experts in the field.
